Andy Blake is a London-based DJ, producer and label owner. He is also a man that brings a punk rock DIY aesthetic to an industry full of sycophants and predictability. Andy is unequivocally neither. For me, talking to Andy is like being re-baptised in the music and culture you once loved and emerging refreshed and full of music-hungry zeal. World Unknown, the party he runs with fellow DJ Joe Hart, is a bit like that too. I went a couple of months ago and left with the woozy realisation that I hadn’t been to a truly great party in a decade before that night.
As a label owner he has provided the underground with some of it’s most compelling and authentic-feeling outlets for amazing music: from the legendary Dissident, to the current plethora of In Plain Sight, Cave Paintings (the label dedicated to his own stripped-back analog productions) and the ascendent cult label World Unknown.
